Is it legal for a collection agency to pull my credit info without my permission?
December 252009
I contacted a the law office handling my collection reported on my credit report to try to settle because I need to satisfy my debts before buying a house. I noticed on my credit report that the collection agency pulled my credit the day I contacted them. Is this legal for them to view my credit report? If not, what legal actions can I take against them?
Yes it is, any time someone is trying to collect on a debt they have the right to pull your credit.
Most likely they are looking for you current address or employer so they can contact you.

authorization to pull your credit report was given to the original lender
the contract (debt) was sold to the collection agency
they have the rights you gave in the original contract.
happens all the time

Yes it is legal I hope you plan to do Pay for delete so they can delete the items off your credit report if they remove them it bumps up your score which in term will give you a better interest on your home loan.

If you had a charged off account that was sold to a collection agency, they have the permission to pull your credit bureau.

YES and NO
They can only pull the credit bureau with your permission or in order for skip tracing. This means if they pulled your credit after your phone conversation and were aware of how to reach you, then it was illegal for them to pull your credit for the purpose of just knowing your financial background or ability to pay.
